The Sandbaai and Hermanus coasts are well-known around the world as the top destinations for land-based whale watching. The whales favour the shallow waters to mate and calve. The rocky outcrops on Sandbaai beach, just in front of the house, are an excellent platform from which to view these gigantic wonders. The whales usually start to arrive in May, with peak viewings in late September and October.

Organized boat trips from Hermanus are offered by a limited number of licensed boat operators. This gives you a chance to see these magnificent creatures from a whole different angle.
